To update my post:
After an overnight charge, with charger disconnected and measured at the trailer socket with the vehicle in a locked idle state, I get 12.86V, which is 100% charge

I changed my original battery last month; my car is a 2005. The battery was still testing OK but was cranking slowly in the cold after sitting for a few days.

I've still got the original battery in my 2006 and it's still absolutely fine.
Just another endorsement for Tayna. I've used them to buy a couple of batteries (for a boat and for a Mazda 3) and they're very good. Good choice/range of specs and good price. The battery failed in my wife's car and she needed to be rescued by the RAC, who offered her a new Bosch battery at "special/trade" price of £125. Tayna have the same battery for about £70. I can't remember what exactly we went for in the end, but a decent brand and a higher spec (much better than the original, rather poor spec Mazda battery). Gerry |

Hi all,
I just noticed this thread! The battery was failing in my V8 and as i have a Halfords account went there. The battery equivalent to the Volvo one was actually smaller so on recommendation by the staff member there I fitted a higher output/larger battery ( same physical size as the Volvo 1 it was replacing) but now worried if it will damage the car! I fitted a Yuasa Silver 5000 100Ah, 900A. Is this going to caused problems? I just thought a slightly bigger one would compensate as Im running the heated seats a lot and dont use the car every day. Cheers, Steve

Nope, it'll be absolutely fine - I've just bought exactly the same battery for my old E39 BMW 530d and its working a treat. Seems a good battery, and looks like it'd be a perfect fit for the XC90 D5. Excellent cold cranking amps for turning over a big diesel lump. |

So, after purchasing the CTek charger, which is supposed to tell you your battery is faulty and won't charge, if it won't hold a charge didn't work.
I purchased the comfort panel so I could see when the battery needed a boost by looking. The divice told me my battery was in need of a full charge, so I did the full recond charge, all the lights told me the battery was fine, did the full cycle including recond, great I thought I don't need a new battery as the charger didn't come up with errors during the full cycle. I disconnected the charger and immediately my comfort panel went to red, indicating that the battery needed a full charge. So in my opinion the charger doesn't do what it says on the box, or what the video says on the website. Consequently, I have just had to replace the battery with a new one. Just as a foot note, the battery is the original Volvo battery. It has the date written on the Volvo label of 2007, amazing lifespan!!!!

But if the battery is so really old and end of life, then nothing can revive the battery.
