Default V70 How to disconnect passenger side air bag

Hi all

I have a 1999 V70 BiFuel.

I can take out the glove box, but to remove the upper fascia I have to remove the passenger side air bag (after disconnecting the battery and waiting at least 10 minutes).

I can physically detach the air bag and fascia but I cant see how to undo the wiring connector (grey with some purple safety catches).

How do I separate that connector?

Thanks
Steve

Hard to believe that, after more than 7 years, nobody has responded to Steve's query. Instructions for separating that connector are given here:

https://thosbryant.wordpress.com/201...irbag-removal/

By the way, those purple pieces are not "safety catches". Thinking that they were such was part of the problem that I had figuring out how to take the connector apart.

Thanks Tom!

I have snapped at least one other one since then.

I haven't thought about it for a while, but thinking now, I am still curious about what purpose that purple piece serves.

Steve,

Thinking (incorrectly) that the larger of the two purple pieces was a "safety catch", I also broke it while trying to disconnect the wiring, so I was able to see what it is for. (A bit of super glue repaired the damage.) It actually serves to hold the wire terminals in place inside the green portion of the connector. The smaller purple piece in the other end (presumably) serves the same purpose.

I noticed that in your original post you stated that your connector was "grey", whereas the ones on this side of The Pond are green. I assume that your car, being RHD, has a different airbag and therefore a different connector, but I hoped that it would be similar enough to the ones used here that the same technique would apply.
