Speed on sat nav

Hi Everyone.
Updated maps to 2018 edition.
Searched the forum but can't find an answer, so I will ask you intelligent peeps on here.
Does the sat nav display the current speed on the road as you drive.
Was driving around Norfolk yesterday, turned off a 50mph road onto a narrower road, I was traveling for quite a few miles without seeing a speed limit sign.
So I carried on doing 50mph, not knowing if it had changed, I thought that you drive at the speed what the last sign you saw.
All was fine until the plod were parked in a layby with there camara, I did slow when I saw them, so will wait to see if I receive a letter in the post.
It would have helped if the speed limit was displayed on the screen, is there somewhere in the settings that it can be turned on? Or doesn't it have this function.

There is no functionality in the Volvo nav systems fitted to the first gen and faxelift XC90s to show vehicle speed

Sounds like it just does the 'camera shutter' noise when approaching a fixed camera site. At these, it displays the limit. No use for 'behind the hedge' specials though.

You can always record your own Speed Cameras
Just press and hold the ENTER button as you pass by a Speed Camera that is not already in the nav.
It will be added.
But just as a location / sound / icon. No speed limit, as that data is unknown.

The sat nav is pretty limited in any additional functionality; I tend to use it as a back up option mainly, especially in areas with poor mobile phone reception. I mostly use the Waze app on my phone (on a windscreen mount) - it uses real-time data for route planning and usually finds the fastest route.

It shows your current accurate GPS speed and whether you're under or over the speed limit for that specific road (and by how much) - I've found it to be extremely accurate. It was a real bonus when driving in France over the summer on roads that varied hugely in posted speed limits. It also shows fixed or (previously spotted) mobile speed traps - or in France 'speed-aware areas' to comply with the French laws on speed camera spotting.

As a complete aside, I'm surprised how accurate my XC90's speedo is - seemingly much more so than my old BMW E39 which over read by a Teutonically consistent 5%.

As a general rule, if the road has no signs and streetlights, it's a 30mph zone. If no signs and no streetlights, it's the national speed limit.

That’s not a general rule, that is absolutely what the law says. There needs to be a traffic regulation order in place for the road to change from this and the signage must correctly match the said order.

The main road I was driving on was 50mph with signs at regular intervals.
I turned onto a minor road and didn't see a sign at all for miles, there are no street lights, what I describe as a country road.
The plod were waiting in a layby, I was doing 50mph when I saw them and braked to around 35mph, wheather the caught me at 50 I don't know as usual they were almost hidden until too late.
Suppose I will have to wait and see.

As both Reggit and Kenny said above - no repeater signs and no streetlamps = national speed limit = 60 = no worries for you.
