Smile Thermistors for Climate Control Unit

I recently replaced the damaged thermistor in the climate control unit of my 2004 V70 SE T5

I duplicated the order with marginally different configurations "just in case". However, I could only order the thermistors in packs of 5 (our local Maplins has gone!!!) so I now have nine spare thermistors ie

5 of RS Spares EPCOS B57540G1103F000 Thermistor 10kΩ, 0.8 (Dia.) x 1.4mm (spherical glass) RS Stock No. 769-1892 which cost me £3.59 each delivered
and
4 of Rapid's DHT0A103F34D3SY 10K 3435k 1% Axial (Cylindrical Glass) NTC Thermistor Order Code: 55-1229 which cost me £2.20 each delivered.

Their specification ie operating parameters are identical even though they are physically differently.

I'm happy to sell them on individually to Volvoforums.org.uk members at cost for either type + 95p P&P i.e. to cover the bubble wrap envelope & postage if anyone is interested.

They are very small components so some sort of protective wrapping is needed in the post.

N.B.

I've again checked the output temperature of the air from the air con: the output reads 22.2°C with an ambient cabin temperature of 22° +/- 0.1°C (i.e. one scale division) - the dash area readout was showing as 22°C which was the same as the dialled in temperature on the CCM potentiometers.
My digital thermometer at various points around the car showed 22°C.
The only major difference was the cargo area which showed a temperature of 22.6°C which given the sun and outside temp of 24°C was no real surprise.

When other temperatures were dialled in as 24°C and 18°C the output on each side was comparable @ +0.2°C.

The thermistors are still available.

Yes there is -

there's a Youtube Video showing how to do it for a XC70 here - the principle is the same for all P2s and many other Volvos https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...ic.php?t=82005

also there's a written post #75 here https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...=122093&page=8 even though it is for an XC90 the principle is the same.

Make sure you disconnect the battery before trying to remove the control panel - otherwise the air bag warning light will come on when you put everything back.

I've got the stereo to take out/replace and the heating system to sort which is going from very hot to very cold. Might as well replace the thermistor while I'm there so I can rule that out.

Do you know if these will fit a 2006? If so, I'll take one.

I'm fairly certain the same thermistor is used across a range of years and models including S60, S80, XC70 and XC90 the fascias have changed in the facelift versions and the P3s, but the aircon systems are almost identical behind the fascias.

Both thermistor types have exactly the same spec, the wires are quite fine so it is probably best to use a low power soldering iron with a clip of some sort as a heat sink, a flattened off croc clip works well enough.

Let me know which one you want, and I'll pm you my paypal address, costs as shown above + 95p P&P i.e. to cover the new bubble wrap envelope & 2nd Class postage, or £1.15 1st Class - signed for works out at £2.15 2nd class or £2.38 1st Class, which probably isn't worth it for a component costing £3.59 for the RS thermistor.

Cheers
Alan

Re post #1 above

4th November 2019 - I have only three of these thermistors still available.

I have
1 of RS Spares EPCOS B57540G1103F000 Thermistor 10kΩ, 0.8 (Dia.) x 1.4mm (spherical glass) RS Stock No. 769-1892 which cost me £3.59 each delivered
