Default Rotor won't fit with new handbrake shoes.

Hi All,

As my 05 XC90 needed new disc and pads I went ahead and also ordered new handbrake shoes to change as well. After a bit of swearing got everything off and fitted the new shoes but then hit a problem. While trying to fit the new rotor there isn't enough clearance and it's snagging on the new shoes (as they have a bit more meat then those being replaced). Tried the old rotor just to double check and it has the same problem as well. I have checked the obvious things e.g park brake disengaged.

Anyone come across this before or could shed some light on how to resolve? Thanks.

Have you released the parking brake adjustment ferrule next to the front passenger seat in the car?

Under the handbrake, wind the nut off to loosen the cable.

Sorry, but that's not the case on an XC90. Totally different system.

You apply the parking brake on these with your foot and the adjuster is under the side console next to the front passenger seat.

Yes, on the S60, as you say it's a 10mm nut under the handbrake.

On the XC90 you apply the handbrake with your left foot and release it with a pull lever on dash.

The adjuster for this is under the side console next to passenger seat and has a very specific way of being adjusted. No 10mm nut here

In addition, when doing the handbrake shoes on these it's best to replace the solid H bar on the brakes with the readily available threaded adjuster.

It makes a massive difference.

No I haven't, would I follow this same procedure as per your link to slacken off the cable?

Yes, the instructions in that link ( not mine ) are accurate so follow them for releasing the tension and then for re tensioning after brake is assembled but be VERY careful not to drop the clip that is mentioned .

The adjusters within the brake assembly that I mentioned are cheap and make a massive difference. Consider them later if you wish.

Thanks I will give that a try. Yes I have installed the adjusters as part of the install. Thanks again for your help.
