Angry please help

Hi folks i have a 1990 940 saloon with b230 fb engine problem is car parked at house tuesday night was running fine next morning engine turns over as normal but wont start tried OBD all codes 1-1-1. No fault in memory have found power in and out of ignition coil but no spark from coil, put in new coil still no spark. So question is what could have happened overnight with car not doing anything, local air temp had dropped that night as cars were frozen next morning. Question could temp drop create connection faults so as to stop ignition working, does ignition amplifier on lefthand inner wing have any history with temp drop.. Please help as wife going nuts car is her baby..... thanks george.

It could be ignition amplifier as you say or the crank sensor is another possibility. The fact that it failed overnight may not be relevant. I had a crank sensor on a 740 turbo fail seconds after starting the car.

Default Problem starting when cold

George, you don't appear to have thought of the usual problem with starting, that is the Fuel Pump Relay (and Radio Suppression Relay). These relays suffer from dry jointed soldering inside the cans and occasionally poor contacts that the relays plug into. If you can hear the main pump running when ignition first switched on and cranking then you may need to ascertain if the in-tank pump runs.

Keep us informed of your progress.

All the best, Peter.
