Default Lakes Volvo - Cambs/Beds

Some of you may have spotted in the latest Driver magazine a mention that Lakes Volvo will be closing. I had a few small bits I needed so practically had a morning out there today - would very much recommend going before they do close.

There are lots of 700/900 series, plenty of 40- and 70- series cars plus a fair few 200s, 300s and 850s. Even a couple of XC90 cars too.

The chap inside was really helpful (I forget his name!). They may still be going for a few months, waiting for paperwork to be finalised, but it'll be a great loss.

Quite easy to get to, just off the A1 - take the turn for St Neots & Cambridge - they are literally just off the slip road.

Oh, what a shame - really sorry to hear they're closing. Had a good few parts from them over the years to keep my Volvos on the road...

No way! Just up the road from me, might have to take the works flatbed and stock up on parts!

Thanks for the info. A shame he is closing.
I love the place - a typical old school scrap yard and the chap is a pleasure to do business with.

I hope to call in before he shuts up shop.

Any idea why? Surely it can't be lack of customers?

Unfortunately whilst I do like the place and its old skool style (and it's just 1/2 an hour from me) and the guys are great to meet when you go there I don't think they've kept up with modern trends in recycled parts. I never had much success with them over the web or on the phone, if you've got the time to root about in a muddy yard and have a chat it's great, if you want to get the part and get it fitted there are better options.
I think the secondhand car parts trade has also changed a lot over the years, back when I started fixing my cars (1980s) the question when you need a starter motor was '2 bolt holes or 3?' the same starter fitted many makes and models, nowadays it can be a question of which month of the year the car was made as to which precise starter (or other bit) it needs, holding all of those different options becomes a major excercise.

I spoke to them today (20/02/2021) and it appears that they are still trading!

They must have cottoned on to the whole closing down sale idea.... Works for the high street stores

I have delt with these guys for years.
" Knowledgeable" doesn't even cut it. I reckon Barry has forgotten more than most volvo specialists will ever know.
If he isn't busy he is a great guy to have a chat with.
