Very pleased to hear all is now ok, Just a word about the "grease" under the ignition amplifier it is supposed to be there to ensure a good contact and disipate the heat to the aluminium heatsink.
Regards Brian.

It's special electrical grease, I think. When I last bought a replacement module it came with a little sachet of clear or white grease.

I was told by a diagnostics expert once that what usually goes wrong is the aluminium corrodes and that puts pressure on the module. It is apparently very sensitive to bending or strain. It should be clean, properly greased, and the two screws done up firmly but not too tight.

They can fail totally and unexpectedly, so it's worth carrying a spare.
I have had only two sudden engine failures with this engine, and once was the fuel pump fuse suddenly deciding it was too corroded, and the other time was the amplifier module packing up.

I've used electrical contact gel adhesive, such as you find attaching ribbon connectors to circuit boards, so not too strong but a decent bedding consistency
