Default Tool kit storage

I've had my 240 estate (1st volvo) for a little over 3 weeks & am loving every minute of it.

When i bought it the jack, handle, hazard triangle and spark plug box spanner were on the boot floor.

My question is, how were these designed to be stored ? should the tools be in a bag / wallet of some sort ?

How did volvo pack these so they didnt rattle ? The owners book gives a brief description & photo but neither are very clear.

My 240 is an estate.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I seem to remember mine in a bag/ wallet that was strapped to the jack in the spare wheel compartment. The jack was expanded into the bodywork so the whole thing was rigid and didn't rattle.

My saloon is pretty much as above aswell in a leathery wallet pouch thing, i only realised last week that i'm missing a wheel brace, or is that hidden elsewhere?

I don't know about the 240, but on the 940 (a direct descendent of the 240) the tool kit lives neatly inside a secret panel at the side of the boot.

The toolkit came in a black plastic (leatherette?) wallet and on Olaf the 2 consisted of 2 box spanners, 3 metric open-ended spanners, a reversible screwdriver (plain/Philips) and a wheel-trim remover. The wheel-brace was stored separately, but everything lived in the off-side wheelwell.

For the two 240 estates and one 740 estate I have owned, the jack has been wedged in. The top against the inner edge of the spare wheel, the bottom against the bodywork, all inside the spare wheel cover. The handle has slid in to that space.

For the wheel nuts, I carry a flat four legged wheelbrace. To save time, the correct size for my wheel nuts is painted by me to colour identify it.

That tool kit with box spanners et cetera sounds rather neat.

By the way, so far as I remember my offside hatch in the load area contains from the bottom up: two folding axle stands, a small trolley jack and handle, wooden blocks to chock the wheels, jump leads, WD40, some tough rags, latex gloves .....

The Volvo jack is in my opinion VERY good. I recommend also carrying a trolley jack. The trolley jack is a precaution in case I ever get say a puncture where the ground surface is not good enough to use the Volvo jack. I know my father had that puncture with poor road surface and only the car jack available experience, with his Morris Oxford, on a remote country road long before the days of mobile 'phones. Fortunately an AA patrol arrived out of the blue, and he was a member.

In which case the previous owner of Olaf took them away

None of my subsequent 240s had them either though the Valdez still has its pair

Thanks for all the good info. Once again i find this the most helpful forum i've been part of.

The down side is i will now be spending my evenings searching ebay for the missing parts & wallet from my tool kit.

Looks like i need the black plastic (leatherette?) wallet, 3 metric open-ended spanners, a reversible screwdriver (plain/Philips), a wheel-trim remover, and white gloves.

Thanks again.

Simon

I think I still have the gloves with mine! Got the pouch, jack and wheel brace also the reversible screwdriver. Not so sure about the box spanners.....
I keep them in the cubby hole under the boot floor though
