240 General: heater too efficient

hi.

have bit of a problem with my heater on the 240. it is constantly giving hot air through the side and windscreen outlets - despite being set up in 'cold' position.

don't mind that in winter or colder months but in summer and especially with weather we had recently it causes proper frying pan effect in the car and even the windows open don't help.

it a common fault with these? maybe some linkage gone loose? I have unscrew the panel that steers the heater and everything was connected there and seem thigh... what may be the cause?

the heater valve must be either leaking through or not shutting , take the glovebox out and it is mounted to the left side of the heater at the top side .

Almost certainly you'll need a replacement heater valve.
The quick and dirty fix is to put a central heating valve in one of the heater pipes. You then have a big red wheel to turn the heat on and off but you can't do it whilst driving!

I made a thread about this a while ago. The heater control valve will be leaking but the volvo replacements are rubbish. I've given a VW Golf one a go...
