Default 940 Brake Upgrade With 302mm Discs - Wheel choice

After following Steve940estate's excellent how to guide here (http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=157001), i've got myself a 302mm disc setup from a V70 ready to go on my car. Since i'd got a spare suspension strut lying around I thought I'd mock the brakes up on it and try all the wheels I could lay my hands on to see what fits.

So, for future reference:

Standard 15" steel wheel, doesn't fit.

Adhara 15" alloy wheel, doesn't fit.
No picture. One of these:

Galaxy 16", doesn't fit, the arch over the back of the calliper fouls the inside of the rim.

Auriga 16". Fits with plenty of room in all directions.

Aftermarket 16" alloy, of unknown (to me) make. Fits with plenty of room.

Interesting. I couldn't offer many suggestions about wheels apart from the FWD steels with 25mm spacers I used.

Would the standard 15" steel fit if you used a spacer perhaps ?

Glad the Galaxys don't fit as it stops me wanting a set, Polaris or nothing !

Meant to ask if you were fitting the later servo or if you already have one ?

.

It's possible the 15" steel would fit with a spacer, but it would be very close. The thickest spacer that would be practical is 5mm, any larger and the wheel would not locate on the centre bore. I'll try it at the weekend.
My car is a 1995 model and I think will already have the latter servo.

Thanks for having a look. If I ever get round to buying some winter tyres for the car I wondered if a set of 15" steels would fit straight onto my 25mm wheel spacers. I haven't got any standard 15" wheels to try.

What wheels do you plan to use ?

If you have a plated bendix servo it might be the earlier one. My 95 doner car still had the early one.

Default fit

I'm putting the brakes upgrade on in a couple of weeks. They are going under perfos, which I know will fit ( with 25mm spacer). I'll try my 15" steel spare for fitment as I'll have to get a bigger spare if that doesn't fit.

i dont think 15s fit over the 302 period , but itll be interesting , because that was another cost factor of having 16s as a backup....

If you need a 16" steel to use with the spacers go on the hunt for a Peugeot FWD one. I bought the set of 7x16 steels for mine off a Peugeot or Citroen van but had already bought a 6.5x16 to try. I cant remember without looking what model car they come from but think it could but there are a few options.
If you have to even a new one isn't all that expensive.

A 15" 940 steel doesn't fit over the 302 brakes, it also doesn't fit over them with a 6mm spacer (all I have handy). Anything larger than 6mm would require a bolt-on spacer like you have used.

Having looked closely I reckon that the 15" wheels would fit over the brakes when spaced 25mm. The inside diameter of the rim is large enough to clear, it's just the wheel centre that clashes with the brake calliper. But, that would be a very bad idea, because the steering geometry would get very weird indeed.

However, since you've effectively got spacers to put FWD wheels on your RWD car, why not use 15" 850 wheels instead? If they're the same basic construction as the 940 ones there is a good chance that when used with the 25mm spacers they'll clear the brakes and give the correct wheel offset. And you won't have to unbolt your spacers to fit the spare. Know anyone who can lend you one to try?
