Idling but not revving...any ideas?
Hi all,
My Torslanda has been in my local garage for a new rear main seal and input shaft bearing since yesterday...they just called to say it's all back together and running, but it won't rev past idle and sounds like it's struggling for fuel, and asked if I was aware of any other issues with the car. This has never happened before-its always run beautifully. Any ideas as to what may have caused this? My first thought was crank position sensor as they had the bellhousing off and flywheel out, but it's all a bit mysterious. The garage are looking into it but I don't want to be without the car for too long so would like to be able to make a suggestion as to what to look at! Any help would be very gratefully received.

I can't suggest anything specific, but to get at the parts you had serviced they would have tilted the engine and dropped the gearbox, so any of the wiring harness to the engine could have been moved and perhaps a connection broken?
If the engine was tilted until it rested on the bulkhead a connection could have been crushed? |

My money is on the flywheel fitted back in teh wrong position.
With cylinder one at tdc the missing flywheel marks need to line up with the starter opening |

Thanks guys. My first thought was CPS but I think you could be onto something with the flywheel suggestion, Dai.
I'll call in the morning and mention the flywheel alignment. They've done work for me before (clutch in my 744 and rear UJ on my 245) and have been great...they're certain that they'll get to the bottom of this one but if I can make suggestions to speed the process up, all the better.

Had a chat with the garage proprietor this morning about it, really nice guy. He said he had checked fuel rail pressure and found it a little low, so suspected a restricted fuel filter. I mentioned the flywheel alignment issue and he said he was confident that it went back together the way it came apart, but would make checking the alignment the first port of call this morning.
I'll keep you posted!

Is it cutting out above idle speed or just struggling to rev. I fixed a mates car that would tick over but cut out above tickover speed but restarted every time, I found the little earth strap on the distributer plate was parting as it advanced as revs increased and plate turned, its a long shot but if flywheel is correctly lined up its worth mentioning.

Collected the car from the garage today, all sorted now...turns out they were a bolt-hole out on the flywheel alignment as suggested!
Thanks again for your advice, all!

Yeah, having to go back in and change it sort of knackered the profit in the job, I'd imagine.
