I've not run an LPG car before but as my job has changed I'm considering getting a C70 to convert to LPG so your photos are very useful (what is that graduated plastic bottle in the engine bay though?).

I've never really thought about the annual service on LPG, just assumed it was to check for leaks but I'm obviously wrong! So what gets done and how much does it cost?

Cheers Joe

Hi Joe, yes the LPG needs a filter change every 12,000 mine started to suffer as it went Past 14,000 before service (plus mine had slight retune to bring the performance inline with the petrol system)

The plastic bottle is my Flashlube system (oil for the valves), you can get away without using it on the C70 but didn't want to take the risk for the £65 ish extra, although the Flashlube does cost £18 per litre for 2500 miles.

The BRC system is still running faultless and the cars never been smoother ... Highly recommended ! ....

If you look through this section there are photos of a C70 that I have done.

The Flashlube system fitted to MDE's car is of very if no use on a Turbo engine as it will not deliver any oil under boost. That equates to no valve lube under the higher loads where the cylinders are at there hottest. IF a valve saver system is needed on an engine then the best way is an electronic system that will deliver the oil regardless of engine load/boost.

There is no need for on these engine and my opinion is that you are really best best altering the valve set up to avoid problems and offer a long term solution rather than an oiler that has to topped up and checked by the user. Most often valve problems are down to fueling/mapping problems and one of the dealers who provideds info for the LPGA list had a system that did not deliver the LPG very well and that will cause valve problems.

Just a quick note on flash lube ....

Why not fit it ????

It makes less than £50 difference to the total cost and if you're spending that much money to convert !!!

I know it does not keep up with the demand at higher Revs, but with most of us stuck in traffic for most of our time the flash lube is feeding the valves with lube as the engine gets hotter......even though my installer said it wasnt required......

£50 is for teh non turbo version of the kit. For a Turbo it is more like £150.

The non turbo kit will still feed the oil on tick over and light throttle, basicaly when running with no boost pressure at all. That would help with an engine that only suffers mildly from VSR but anything that realy does need the oiling would have to have the electronic kit to feed under all conditions.

We will do harm using the valve saver on an engine that does not need it but fro most the idea of converting to LPG is to save money and using valve saver when not needed reduces that saving. The fitting of teh oiler system is the small part of the cost, the main expens is keeping it filled up.

There are a couple of installers that fit the valve saver to every installation and tell the customers that they need it. That is bad for the LPG industry as it feeds the myths that LPG damages engines when in fact it does not.

I have fitted valve saver systems for customer who wanted it for peace of mind and I have no problems doing it if it makes then feel better.

Still running perfectly ... It proves fitting the correct system and choosing the correct company to fit it can lead to cheap trouble free motoring ....
