I think it's probably worth taking it to a garage to see if they can find the leak. And just put it onto the purchase price of the car.

Fair enough, best see what garage says. I've had 3 rear mains go on me on vintage BMW's in the past. In the end i always made a point of changing the rear mains when fitting a clutch as a rule.
It could be something or nothing with your leak but the heavy concentration in that area does suggest it. Good luck!
