I was surprised you couldn't find them in either manual, made me have a look myself as you say, not there. So I looked in my Volvo owners handbook, page 67.
Front 1-3 persons 26, full load 27
Rear 1-3 persons 28, full load 41
For long-distance driving at speeds near that of maximum for the vehicle, pressure should be increased by 4.5psi.
Love the the terminology of the day
This all of course refers to the original tyre size of 165/80/15

It would depend on the tyre size and load carried.
Did you check around the door shuts for a sticker?
23 psi front 26 rear as far as I know.

Bob 1967's pressures seem like they are for bias ply tires. Underdrive's values are for the radial tires except I think he has a typo. The recommended pressure for the rear with full load is 31 psi. There is a note that the maximum pressure for the radial tires should not exceed 36 psi.

Of course, that was for radial tires of the original size (165) and designed in the previous century

Definitely not my typo, maybe Volvo got it wrong. It also goes on to say 'Maximum pressure may not exceed 45psi'. All the pressures quoted are also given in kp/cm2 and match the psi.
I've just noticed that all this information is repeated inside the back cover of the handbook (which isn't the first edition) so I would doubt Volvo got it wrong.
