1990 Torslanda 245 Estate - 2 litre
Hi
Have had a short on brake lights and after investigation have traced it to within the headlining ( the original wiring had been cut at the tailgate hige and re-routed throught the body/headlining) Rather than strip the headling etc.,I have re-wired the lights from the brake pedal switch and want to link my wiring into the bulb warning circuit could anyone tell me the location of the bulb failure warning unit into which all the lights(Bulbs) are wired ? I assume it is behind the dash somewhere and before I dismantle the dash would like to know its location so that I can zero in and minimise dismantling many thanks Colin Ross |

Haynes reckon it's behind the glovebox along with the fuel pump relay etc. Picture shows a cylindrical unit to the right of the FPR. Numbers on relay should include 31, 57R, 57L, 54S, 54R, 54L and there are at least as many other connections (print in manual is poor).
Good luck! Chris |

I think Chris is right, but I couldn't swear to it. You only need to pull the carpets back, no dismantling anyway. You can't miss it when you find it - it's a hefty cylinder about the size of a large cotton bobbin, with a large plug connector on the end with lots of wires!
Good Luck - those tailgate wires are a pain I know! Cliff Pope |

That is just where it is - drop the lining under the dash on the passanger side and you cannot miss it. If you need lots of fre access you could always remove the glove box.
As for the tailgate hinges I tend to split the cable runs between the two hinges. Wait until there is a problem and then get the tailgate off. Get some cable with a rubberised insulation as it will flex for much longer before causing a similar problem. Dropping the headlining at the rear is no great problem but does need clean fingers!! Tailgate off and on is better done with at least two people. You can do it one hinge at a time but it is fiddley that way.
