Default Tailgate - removing trim at bottom of window outside

Hi Everyone

I'm getting some small bits of rust forming under the rear window trim strip on my 855.

I'd like to remove this trim (at the bottom of the glass, outside) so I can rub down, prepare and paint etc.

Is this a job for which the rear window needs to come out or is it possible without?

I don't want to go and start pulling at things etc and then find I make a right mess of it

Thanks

I think it just slides out to the side!

you can pull it off but you will more than likely bend or break it which is not a bad thing because they normally rot at the ends anyway so if your repainting the rust spots under it you may as well get a new one

Hi,

The trim strip is usually held in place with 6/7 clips.
The trim "clips" onto these clips.

You could slide the trip strip off, but I believe the recommended method is to use a putty knife to ease under the strip, locate the clips and twist out the trip, clip by clip.

Have some photos of the clips if you want...

Des - that would be great if you have, would be very useful.

It's good news that I don't have to remove the window then as I really REALLY don't want to mess about with that, and with the heating elements in it too I can just see it being a nightmare...

Hmm.. The one I have is at the top of the window... Will dig some info up for the bottom...

Is the strip like this:

If so the clips should be like this:

Not that you'll see them until the strip is off!!

You can try with a putty knife gently by sliding he blade in - if it is stopped mm in the try a couple of inches further down and you'll be able to slide the blade all the way under and out the other side. Indicates that the arrangement is as above.

Let us know...

EDIT: I know they just pulled the weather strips off the frnt screen when the screen was replaced. Got new strips fitted...
Pulling off (as stu mentions) may damage the clips so exercise some care...

Easily missed as it is listed under "Side Window Removal"!!!

Since when the rear window was a "side window" I'll never know..
