Question Waterpump gasket on 940

Hello. I have an issue with my gaskets. I’ve changed three gaskets under a year on my waterpump. It always leaks and it’s a new pump. Leaks from the top and behind. I know the procedure but it leaks

I’m new to this forum so sorry if it’s in the wrong place
It didn’t allow me to upload any images

are you using the volvo green gaskets? Is it the gasket or the rubber O ring at the top leaking?

Hello thanks for the reply

No, the color of my gaskets are black. So I guess it’s not original. Yeah it leaks from the big o ring. I guess. it It’s hard to tell where it leaks. The whole back of the pump is soaked.

I would get the proper volvo gasket and 2 O rings . are you aware that you have to lever the pump upwards to compress the top rubber whilst you tighten the bolts ?

Be aware some of the cheap gaskets are the wrong shape and will never seal. They need to be mushroom shape to work.

If it has been leaking a long time the head could have corroded and need repair

I’m aware that I need to compress the pump while I tighten the bolts. It’s mushroom shaped gasket. There’s no damage on the head or anything like that

When I first bought this car it had a leakage. I changed the pump and gasket it held for some months till it started leaking. I use the mushroom gasket and gasket cement or whatever it’s called. I’m aware that it needs to be compressed while tightening bolts. But does it need to be compressed to tighten every single bolt?

you compress the pump up , nip up a top and bottom bolt to hold it then you can tighten the rest .

Thanks for your reply. I’ll let you know how it goes. But one more question. Does it needs to be compressed with sheer power?
