2007 xc-90, dormant
I'm a three time V70 owner spanning 20 years, so I've only looked at this forum when I had a yaw sensor to replace in my BIL's car. That was at least 8 years ago.
I'm sure you remember (ha-ha). What's happening this time is inspection, starting and pulling codes from a 2007 XC-90 I've seen parked for a long time near my barber. Yes, I got a haircut today and decided to go knocking on doors. I found an affable fellow from Haiti who was most interested in seeing his old car fired up. I'll be taking a battery, my small compressor (1 flat tire) and my code reader. It has the 3.2l engine. Does this car use a fob which requires a healthy battery or bladed key? If it's a fob, it'd be smart to bring a fob battery. Does anyone know the size its fob would take? While I'm confident in my curbside skills, I'm always receptive to any pearls of wisdom from experienced XC-90 owners. This all happens Saturday 13 May at 11 AM in Hackensack, NJ, USA. It uses a 3v coin cell, type CR 2032, for the central locking operation. You can enter the car without it, using the key blade in the driver's door lock. The ignition immobiliser operation is self-powered, via inductive pick-up from the ignition lock antenna. So technically, you can start without a good battery but you may as well go equipped with one. Wikipedia tells me that you've a relatively humid environment in that region, so if the vehicle has been dormant for any length of time, I personally would go equipped to remove road wheels and free-up any rusted brake components. If the parking brake has been set for a long period in that kind of environment, you could be in for some fun.. Good luck.

OK.... I like these threads.
With a completely flat battery and assuming the car was locked before being laid up you should be able to open the drivers door with the key. Then you have two options : - Clamber over the seats and remove the boot floor to access the battery to replace it (easier if you fold the middle row flat) Or... - Pop the bonnet and connect the fresh battery to the jump start point (+ve, yellow on diagram) and suitable metal chassis or engine part (-ve). I would then leave the car powered for about 5 mins for systems to wake up, then go for a start. I'd switch the ignition on for 10 seconds and off again about 10 times to get fresh fuel from the tank pumped around the injection system. If you do connect under the bonnect, if you can get the car to unlock I would remove the battery from the boot and replace it with the new one - just in case it's totally dead and shorts the alternator. Good luck!

Thanks for that.
Oddly, the 'page' of this and other websites is now oversized for my computer's screen and the "THANKS" button is cut off. I need to figure out how to fiddle with my display. |

Does the 2007 XC-90 have the bevel gear which is serviceable?
I've read descriptions of changing a filter and the fluid. |

It will probably be a Haldex 3 and it has a renewable filter . There is no drain plug on this unit and the AOC fluid needs to be sucked out. I actually installed a tapped drain plug in mine and it was very easy to do. Use Volvo AOC oil and filter. The actual Bevel or Angle gear at the front of the car has no filter but the oil can be changed again by sucking it out.

Hello,
Thanks S60D-185 for the accurate answer. That is the one I meant. REPORT: Alas, 10 days lead time and a reminder phone call wasn't enough to get the guy to bring/leave the car's key. I arrived on time and fitted my wee pump to one of the two front tires. While it was running I called and was told "He's here but not here"....???? I scribbled a note telling the guy I brought a battery, electric meters and tools and if he wanted me to come back he'd have to give me $30. His secretary-who tried calling his mobile several times- seemed sympathetic to my position. I actually want to give him a call before I unload the tools from my car.
