Question 1986 340 CVT Fuel Type??

Hi, I have just bought a 86 340 CVT and one thing I totally forgot to find out about (too busy researching elastic band gearboxes) was what type of petrol to use. Any advice would be much appreciated.

The engine is a B14 4E and the Renix Ignition Unit is a type 402. I have a Haynes manual that states the ignition timing should set to 6 deg BTDC but doesn't refer to fuel type.

Thanx in advance, Ian...

Hi

I use minimum 97 octane unleaded in my 1985 CVT. The manual says 97 octane minimum, I think.

From memory, that means BP or Esso premium unleaded.

Just as an aside, I use exactly the same petrol in my 1980 345 as well, and it runs brilliantly.

Hope this helps.

Sion

The ignition timing is fixed on yours ..the 1986 model year used 96 octane , the modification for unleaded fuel was to Earth the ‘B’ Terminal on Renix unit. Use wiring harness (part no 3209295) and connect the white cable to a good earth.
But in practice these days just use normal unleaded , my 1980 B14 has been fine on it and has done 250000 miles ...

I had to count the noughts there! 250 grand! That's a tidy mileage for a small car. Neither of our first two 340's got much past 150 thou. Well done you!
