1986 d reg, 5k miles, nooby help pls
Hi all, i am a noob to the Volvo peeps. I am a proud new owner of a d reg, only 5200 mile 1.7 gl. Just want to say hi, as i did in main forum, and want to introduce myself. I am a 38 year old single proud dad of 2 kids, long time motorbike rider, but, as i mentioned, now a proud owner of a 1986 ( d reg) 340 1.7. I love it. I had to renew a few little things, but now she running great. For a 25 year old car i am so so impressed. Everything running great after a first check up, got a yeat MOT, tax, but smelling hot and oily, ( no actual symptoms yet though). Oh, she is only 5000 miles old :!:!:!:!:! Starts ok, runs great, just smells a bit, any ideas people? She had new filters, cables, plugs, drives great, but smells a little, and sometimes takes 2 or 3 starts.....

5,00 miles is exceptional, its probably never been serviced or run much. Must have been garaged to not be rusted to bits.
If there is no sign of oil on the outside of the engine and the temp is normal, change all the fluids. Check the filler cap for oil crude build up. If the engine is a bit oily, degrease with a stiff brush and jet wash it. Consider a rust proofing course aswell. |
