Default Broken or jammed window regulator repair tip

This might help others who find their window stops working all of a sudden.

I've owned our S80 for about 9 wks, with no window problems so far, then all of a sudden the PSR window made a loud 'clonk' & wouldn't go up or down.

When removing the trim then regulator I discovered the cable had for some reason 'jumped' off the central spindle & also slipped off one of the end wheels, jaming itself behind the wheel.

Luckily, however, you can take the assembly apart and so with the help of a lot of WD40 and some luck I was able to free the cable and re-seat it so it's now working again.

The reason it jumped?

It appears the PSR door isn't original (paint & fit is very good though) and when they refitted the Volvo components into the replacement door they 'forgot' to fit the RHS upper rivet and top bolt, so the mechanism was only held onto the door by the LHS lower rivet.

Over time the movement from going up & down must have caused it to move more resulting in the cable slipping.

See pics.

You can take the cover off the winder (3x T25) and then re-seat and rewind the cable, so if one of your windows stops working it might be something similar that's caused it & so it's worth a check before ordering a replacement unit.
