My Fourth...
Picked up my new V40 on Saturday, so in love - never had a new new car before!
She's only the T2 but I am not interested in going fast (I have motorbikes for that). Also got a super deal as my brother works for Snows. |

What is your view on the T2 engine?

Only driven about 20 miles in her, but initial impressions are good.
You can be in top cog doing 40mph, super low revs. Nice little engine, power wise not all that different from my 2.0D that was in the S40. Granted its never going to win any traffic light drag races but I am happy enough. £110 a year tax too |

I think the low revs are a bit of a problem. TBH, 6th gear is kind of useless, not sure it is needed as it revs so very low and 5th is fine.It revs about 1900 at the legal limit. Problem shows up on the motorway where there is no pulling power at all in 6th, so generally leave it in 5th. Further I feel being so low at revving there may be stress on the engine and box over time. My D5 revs higher on the motorway! I would be interested in your mpg when you have clocked up a few more miles. We are, if not too much town work, getting 35 overall.

Wow, 35mpg sounds very low....? All I've driven mine so far is little journeys (max 25 miles) maybe a total of 40 miles since i've had it and my mpg says about 33 I think.
It doesn't worry me all that much I think as I struggled to get 39 out of my 2.0D S40, so with the cost of petrol I think I'll be no worse off. Will keep you updated! Speaking with my brother I am pretty sure he said that engine is designed to rev very low, I don't think you'll have any issues with the longevity... |

I think the problem with modern petrol engines is that you have to work the gearbox, I've been a diesel driver for a while now and I admit you do end up being lazy with the torque on tap.
Owing to a past occupation I am quite used to working the gearbox so it comes naturally to me. Took the V40 out again last night and I am up to about 75 miles, currently the average on the trip is saying 35.5mpg. Has been only A and B road driving, majority being round the local towns. Perhaps I just drive like Miss Daisy is in the rear :-D |
