S40 V40 Cars: - Alarm Battery

My diagnostics indicates my Alarm battery is low and needs replacing.

1. Where is the Car Alarm?
2. How is the Car Alarm internal battery replaced?
3. Does the Car 12V battery need to be disconnected to replace the Alarm battery?

1. On the Phase2 cars it's under the OSF wing, behind the indicator. On the Phase 1 cars it's under the battery tray
2. You will need to remove the alarm siren from the car, undo the 4 screws from the back and remove the cover and you will see the battery in there. Can't remember exactly which one it is, but it is an RTC NiMH typy battery. Can check and let you know
3. It's always a good idea to disconnect the car battery before you do the job

Is it a rechargeable battery? Just wondered because I haven't replaced it yet, and the alarm is still working fine. So, does it really need to be replaced anyway, even though its reporting a code for "low battery - alarm"?

Discovered I have an error code VGLA-312 Siren Internal Battery Fault. It's not an old code as it came back after I erased it.

Like morrismen, the alarms seems to be fine. Is it necessary to replace it?

I'd be interested in this too as the alarm on mine keeps going off at random; I keep having to remember to lock it by key!

It is a 7.2V 140mAh 6/V150H battery with a connector.

i havent had any warnings but im sure my siren has gone all together no sound and i think i read some where that this can cause a battery drain so i need to get mine replaced

It can be easy, or it can be a pig. It all depends on how badly rusted the mounting brackets are. you can remove it without removing the wing, but it can be a bit tricky. With the wing off, it is a very easy job
