I know the 440XI is not popular but...
Hello everyone, I have read from several "posters" that the 400 series cars are not popular. However, since acquiring my very first Volvo a 440 XI Automatic (Vera) with only 10k miles on the clock I have been "thrilled" to bits with my car. Despite a little over-heating issue, solved with help from members here, I have had no problems at all. We have been to Scotland and go every day to Leeds centre, quite happily "tootalling along". I have received lots of compliments regarding the condition of my car and would not sell her whatever price was offered. I have a Volkswagen Golf GTi that I wouldn't sell either, but if asked, would find it difficult to choose between the two. It is 're-assuring to drive a car that I am in control and not regulated by sensors.

Yep - they were always overlooked cars and a good one will serve you well even now.
Fortunately, as with other of what might overall be the less popular models, there is a small band of 400 followers keeping them alive... Perhaps see Vera at one of the meetings next year? Lily will be going into hibernation soon - but only after I have replaced her starter motor which decided to unceremoniously give up the ghost in the car park of Screwfix in York yesterday evening!! Hi David, thanks for reply. Yes definitely will be at any Yorkshire or local meetings next year. Sorry to learn you've had a minor hiccup with Lily - hope all sorted now. As stated in post, still enjoying travelling about, absolutely no problems at all. But as weather is changing and not long till the "silly season" will be giving Vera a rest over winter & Christmas in particular. Kind Regards Jane

Hi, would you have any pictures of Vera?
I must say that any car you rarely glimpse is always going to be more interesting to the likes of myself, in all honesty when Volvo started using letters instead of just numbers it all got a little too generically boring. So a 440 still on the road is really worth celebrating. Rustytoba (Scott) |
