Default T5 TME + ECU UPGRADES

I am sure this has been asked a million times, but could not find anything in archive!

Can anyone tell from their experience re the TME engine upgrades e.g. how much difference they made are they really worth it.Would also like feedback on what is the latest on having to upgrade or not e.g. upgrade the exhaust system as well when carrying out this upgrade from TME?

Thanks a bunch

JW

No experience with TME upgrades (I would try Swedespeed.com as lots of people there have done it) but you DO need to fit a complete new exhaust system, they state clearly on the website that you need a complete new catalyst & big bore exhaust.

I have corresponded with a Swedish guy who has 30,000+ kilometers with a TME-upgraded T4 with no problems.

Is that for the V40 Craig? Cos you definately only need a catback exhaust on a 850/V70.

Although according to one of the heads of IPD (TME's US distributor) TME have said that you only need the exhaust if you are going to be operating at full throttle for long periods of time, i.e. racing or autobahn cruising :)

But that goes against TME's website..hmm!

The TME upgrade is sold in this country by Swecar Tuning, owned and run by Sentley Wilson.

He will not sell you the upgrade without an exhaust, because of what will happen to the cat potentially if you dont uprate the exhaust to cope.

I think he has a deal on right now where they're doing the whole lot for £1000.

He has done the mod on his own car, and it does fly! It has also done about 50k miles I think with no worries.

If you wanted to talk to loads of people about modding, why not come down to Power Engineering in Uxbridge on Saturday?? There will be 20 modified volvos and their owners to talk to....

Regards,

Phil :-)

Alex, a while ago I emailed TME's Swedish HQ to ask about it ... they were quite honest and said that althought the Volvo standard cat **could** last for many years with the TME ECU upgrade, under high-load conditions the extra exhaust temp would overheat it and reduce its life to less than 5,000 miles. It all depends on the individual's driving style and type of driving ....
