850 headlights
I'm taking the 850 estate to France, can I use tape on the headlights for conversion, or do I need the volvo supplied ones. I had heard rumours about heat build up blowing the bulbs.

RE: 850 headlights
Hi ya,
You just need those Halford type plastic stick on converters at about £5 i think. You can go for the yellow one as well to keep them happy. The only heat build up is if you have headlamp protectors on like i do as no air cooling happens to the converters but no problems. I have drove around whilst living abroad over three months with no problems. mark.

I took a T4 to France a few years ago and went for the Tape option, with no problems at all.....
The 'R' is doing the same trip this year and will probably recieve a portion of tape again :) Jim, '96 855-R (The Flying Cheapskate :) ) |

Do both shaped bits of the headlight glass get cover up. it isn't obvious.

RE: 850 headlights
I take my T5 to france very often - have a house there.
I use "Beam Benders", rather than block the light, they bend the beam, so you don't loose drivability at night. They're yellow which keeps in with the old Renault 5's there ;) Don't be afraid to put your foot down on the Autoroute. Take the Limit in KM as MPH - 10mph = Realistic Speed Ie (130km = 130mph - 10 = 120mph) In my experience police don't mind too much. Thats if they are around, on a recent trip I did Calais-Clermont Ferrand (500 miles ish) and only went below 110 to stop for fuel. On the whole trip (1000+) I saw only one police car. Sometimes they try to get you on the Toll booths if your average speed is high. HTH |

RE: 850 headlights
Just bought a pair of beam benders. Looking forward to the less crowded roads!
