S70 Spark plug query
My 1998 S70 2.5T is shortly due for a 60 000 service. The car is under a Select Warranty for at least another 10 000 miles.
My query is this...I have been quoted around £280 for the Volvo service, £50 of which includes Spark Plugs. Having looked at Eurocarparts I see they have Bosch ORIGINAL FIT Sparks for less than £1.50 each!! I had a quick word with Volvo and they tell me they fit special plugs for turbocharged engines!! Having read other posts I believe that these £10 plugs from Volvo are no different to those available from Eurocarparts. I don't want to be taken for a ride here but by the same token fully realise that these cars must be serviced properly. If I provide the dealer with the plugs will he tell me to clear out? and more importantly am I invalidating the warranty by using plugs which were not supplied in a Volvo box? All help much appreciated. Andrew |

RE: S70 Spark plug query
If your dealer agrees to use the Europart plugs, check the warranty situation before fitting them.
Warranty companies sieze any opportunity not to pay out, so I'd be very careful here - you could save a few quid and lose hundreds or thousands. |

You can only be forced (by nature of warranty...) to use OEM parts and service to manufacturers standards - not *necessarily* paying main dealer rates. I would imagine that the Haynes manual shows the correct plug for the engine. And no doubt the dealers will give you the part no for the plugs. >Warranty companies sieze any opportunity not to pay out, so >I'd be very careful here - you could save a few quid and >lose hundreds or thousands. They can't not pay out merely for not paying inflated prices, though. All they can insist on is OEM parts, and servicing to manufacturers standards - not *necessarily* where or how much you pay for servicing. Lei Chan |
