Default Noisey Power Steering

Hi all,
Anyone know what causes the power steering to whine... it only used to do it on full lock but now it seems to happen below 10mph whenever I steer....
I have checked the fluid level and tyre pressures... I have had new tyres recently, but I don't think it did it much for the first few hundred miles of them and it does seem to be getting worse...

Any clues anyone?

Ta,
Andy.

I found, when George was picking up some parts from me, that his power steering pump belt was as loose as a badger's backside when he started it up to let me hear the noise. When switched off the belt appeared to be much tighter. However when checking the belt for tightness I noticed that the pump was moving on it's bracket. I promptly dug out my bracket ( which also mounts the alternator on ours) and pump and I feel that sorted out George's car. His bracket did not have the adjustment attachment fitted but it looked as if the bottom pivot bolt had snapped and the pump was twisting on the rubber bushes. Perhaps your problem is similar.

All the best, Peter.

Hi ya,

I have just changed my steering fluid and it made a right old noise when the wheels were on the ground. I had nearly a litre come out but not that much go in. In short i still had air in the steering rack somewhere even after following the instructions to the letter in the haynes manual. Perseverance its stopped now. You might give this a try next after Peter's suggestion.
