Rear light clusters for 850 Saloon...

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice regarding the rear light clusters on my 1994 850 T-5 Saloon.

My car is fitted with the earlier style rear lenses and I was hoping to replace these with the facelift style as fitted to some 1995 and 1996 model year cars.....much nicer.

Included in doing this would be to change the deco panel between the lights and around the number plate area.

Basically, to chage these items will it just be a straight swap for the new parts or is there a lot of fiddling required? Also, any recommendations as to where to obtain the parts? Any help or advice greatly appreciated!

I think you may well be OK to replace the inner bits with the curved side-to-side plastic moulding - whether you can replace the clusters themselves is something I don't know.

Try your local dealer's parts department and see if the fittings are the same on the microfiche.

Personally, I prefer the older version of the light cluster (no I won't do a swap, sorry but the value of the car would be seriously affected)

You could try a scrappy and see if there are any front-end smash 850 saloons around to supply the bits you need.

However, corners are the first things to get smashed in an accident, it may be a long search...

Thanks for the advice Simon......I have asked local volvo agent who seems to think the clusters will be a straight swap, but that the trim panel between the lamps needs extra fixings. I shall see.

I have been looking around a few breakers but as you rightly say, the lights are usually the first thing to get smashed....the search continues!

If I have any joy I will of course post my findings here in case anybody else has the same query.
