Default Workshop manual for V40 diesel?

As Haynes don't produce a manual for the s40/v40 diesels, what does everyone use instead?

Some Renault versions of the Haynes cover the F8Q and F9Q engine. I have a Renault Laguna 1994 to 2000 manual (no. 3252) but I've never really needed to refer to it.

You can also refer to the following workshop manuals for the F8Q unit or the F9Q unit (in PDF format)

as baffler saye haynes don't do one, so best way is to get one for the petrol version rest of car is same brakes suspension etc. but if you need to anything about engine just post your problem on here, then wait for baffler, or 960kg to post pages from VADIS.

Just bought a 2000 Volvo V40 DS Estate 1.9 Diesel engine, how can I tell which of these two engines it has?

Thanks very much in advance for any help

The worst things about owning a diesel V40 are the lack of a manual and the high cost of a code reader. Although the Volvo dealers might not think it fully cosher, I just wish someone would copy the relevant sections from Vadis and then sell them on Fleabay in DVD or download form.

I'm working in the US at present and you are not allowed to restrict access to technical data on a product sold to the public, it has to be published or available for sale. There are important safety aspects to the US attitude to service information, because it's not good news for a garage or owner to work on a car for which they do not have a full maintenance manual. It can result in mistakes, some of which can result in an accident or incident.

The Haynes Renault Laguna manual is only of interest if you are working on the main block, as Volvo improved most of the associated systems. The cooling, electrical, fuel and exhaust system are all rather different. The Haynes petrol V40 manual is of some use for non engine systems.

Seeing as the thread was brought up again anyway, I believe the F8 is the indirect injection version with pre-combustion chambers fitted in earlier models, the F9 being the direct injection

Not sure at a glance how to tell the difference but the engine cover on mine says Direct Injection and is a 2002 model (Wikipedia suggests the F9Q was fitted from 1998 to 2004, but suggests the F8Q was fitted from 1995 right through to 2004 which seems odd, surely you'd standardise on the direct injection variant, but then again, Wikipedia isn't gospel)

Engine variants will vary across the global market so it's difficult to decipher the correct designation. In this part of the globe we go as follows:

Phase 1 - '96 to '99 - D4192T (F8QT) 90bhp (distributor type pump)

Phase 1.5 - '99 to '00 - D4192T2 (F8QT) 95bhp (early direct injection type pump)

Phase 2 - '00 to '04 - D4192T4 (F9QT) 102bhp (direct injection pump)

Phase 2 - '01 to '04 - D4192T3 (F9QT) 115bhp (direct injection pump)

You can determine your engine type from the 6th and 7th digit of your VIN.

It's not very concise but I've managed to upload the F9Q workshop manual. The F8Q is a slightly larger file size so PM me if you would like it sent via email.
