Default Odometer / Trip Meter

Just reset mine after filling up the 480, and both have now decided to stop working!

Not sure *if* they were working before I hit the tripmeter reset.

Suggestions (serious ones please!) welcome.

Thanks

Chris

Is your speedo working?

What about ALL the info on the computer, mpg etc?

Sorry - only gave half the info.

Speedo is fine, as is rev counter, all lights, and the info centre.

Just the Mileometer/Trip Meter

Kind regards

Chris

Hi.

If everything else is working, then my best guess would be the stepper motor behind the speedo face, or a broken/jammed cog in the workings.

Hi Chris, Steve, guys. This is my first post in the Volvo community as only starting yesterday I joined it as an actual owner. After more than 15 years of loving Volvos, here I am with a brand 'new' 480 Turbo parked in front of the house.

Going to the point of this topic, I bought it with a similar problem: the speed, the odo and the trip meter are not working. As per the previous owner, it happened recently. Mpg and the other consumption related function are not showing any data. Range, exterior temperature, oil and engine temperature are properly displayed. Any ideas of what can be behind this? I assume a loose connection or something. Also, any ideas of a good electrician around London? Passenger window is dead and some of the speakers are not working. Same for the heated seats. Other than this, all good, managed a Penzance - London trip yesterday without any issues.

Cheers,
Cosmin.

Hi Cosmin.

If your info centre is working, but not showing MPG related info, then it'll either be a loose connection behind the clocks.
Or, if your speedo isn't working either, it'll prob be the speed sensor on the gearbox.

This is of course presuming that your info centre works at all, engine temp etc. And isn't completely useless!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. The info centre is not useless, range, exterior temperature, oil and engine temperature work just fine. Just the mpg is not, same as the odo, speed and trip meters. I assume it's a loose connection as well, now I need to find someone who knows how to fix this stuff

Cheers,
Cosmin.

Join the 480 club europe forum as it is dedicated solely to 480 's it definitely sounds like you need a new speedometer sensor . It takes 45 minutes and an allen key + a small mirror to change one over for the first time . if you have a turbo then you are going to have to go from underneath the car It is a nuisance of a job but can be done I have done it on normally aspirated cars as well as turbos.

Oh passenger window dead is usually the window regulator that has died and needs replaced . An easy job all you need is a small crosspoint screwdriver a large cross point screwdriver and a 10 mm spanner. You should be able to do this yourself. Log onto the 480 website as there is a section of how to's oh and there are people on there with spares for sale at reasonable prices

I know at least 1 ROFL !

Thanks Jim, I'll have a look. I must say that my skills in fixing cars are really limited, the only jobs I did before are changing bulbs, batteries, an air filter and that's kinda it Had a look today to see how to check the speakers as I am sure there is a problem with the wire, but haven't been able to

First step was to order some gas springs for the boot as the original ones are not very stable. This looks like a really easy job!
