Transmission service required. PLEASE HELP
Hi all,
Just bought an XC90, 2004 with 150k on the clock I've had it two days and a warning light has just come on indications I need a transmission service required and also a regular service Not worried about the regular service as this will be done asap but pretty worried about what transmission service required means! Google seems to be telling me the gearbox is about to die!!!!please help and put my mind at rest as to what the problem might be and rough costs associated! Thanks in advance! |

Blimey, were you up all night worrying about this!
Is the car still driving ok and shifting smoothly? I'm sure others will be along soon to offer further advice, but if you search other threads on here it seems that there is a timer that records transmission temperature over a certain temp and if the timer reaches a high enough value than that can trigger this message. This can happen if the transmission has had a hard life - lots of towing etc. It may just be that you need a fluid change (search 'gibbons method') and the message resetting by a dealer or independent with the right equipment. There may however be other causes if you have other symptoms - fingers crossed! I think first step is likely to be to get a full code read from the car and see if that throws anything else up. |

As Ade2015 said, read the codes and do the fluid change asap.
Check the colour of the fluid from the dip stick hidden below the airbox. Shoukd be pinkish if it is dark brown it might needed changing. You can easily remove the old fluid just by removing the bolt from bottom and then refill it from the dip stick hole. Or do a proper gibbons method which I did a year ago. That might solve the problem. There are cheaper ATF fluid in the market though.

Did you buy it from a trader or was it a private sale?
If from trader you should have a warranty of at least 30 days. Take it back |
