Default Replacing the H9 bulb - bugger

Decided to replace the H9 for a new brigher version (still legal version) after getting a good deal on them. Bit fiddly compared to the H7's as one have to twist it our of the steel plated socket whihc is attached in 3 places onto what I presume is the reflector section. I used plumbers pliers for first one an gently twisted in the direction as indicated (and looked from the from the front at the same time) and it eventually gave away. No such luck with the second one as would not budge and suddenly the fixing plate (holding the bulb) got loose so I am in a pickle. Is there a way to remove the front lense (and suppose then re-seal it) to get access to the reflector and whats behind so that I can secure it back in place?

Bake the headlamp in an oven at 50°C (no higher) for an hour to soften the glue then you can take the lens off

You will need to reseal it again afterwards.

As SwissXC90 mentions

Didn't know there was such a thing as an uprated H9?!?

Thanks for the tip.
Re bulbs, decided to try PIAA 3900 bulbs instead of the ones that have been in for 10 years. Dark roads up here so thought worth a try. Anyway am now faced with some gentle diy work this weekend...

If you can get hold of it coat the fixings with powdered graphite when you reassemble. Super slippery and should not be affected by the heat.
It's either that or grease and remove on a regular basis so the lamp doesn't stick to the fixings.

I'm looking for the graphite to be ready when I need to do mine.

Paul.

Graphite conducts electricity, using around electrical assemblies is playing with fire.

From what you say it looks like the whole reflector has come loose from a ball joint inside the headlamp. I had this with our car when we bought it. You can refit it with much skinning of knuckles but I found by drilling a small access hole it was possible to apply force using a screwdriver to the reflector and fit it back into the ball joint.

If graphite is unacceptable, try a dry PTFE lubricant spray. (That's powdered Teflon to you and me!) Heat resistant and permanently slippery, like your frying pan.

Thanks for your comments to date, have ordered some butyl sealant mastic tape and will then have a go at trying to fix it without removing the lens but if I do need to go in then I will have the gear to complete the job in a single session. Will post how I get on withing a week or so.
