Are v70 d5 215ps awd???
I'm looking at a new baby friendly car.. naturally I'm looking at a later v70 d5 215ps twin turbo model.
Are all of the d5 215ps models awd as standard? |

They had a bracket in the load area for a full sized spare.
I believe they were polestared to a higher level than the standard polestar and it affected reliability, head gaskets were a common failure at one time. Some of the police petrol models used diesel front sub frames as it gave a wider track, wether that is relevant to the P3 I do not know. Paul. |

Volvo were big into Police spec cars and their dealer network was geared up to support them with parts and service.
There have been many differences over the years - I don't know what would be specific to your car but they included uprated suspension components, additional wiring looms to aid connecting electrics, higher capacity charging circuits and batteries, lack of roof rails but the most sought after plod spec upgrade was bigger front brakes. As has been said they were "souped up" a little but they should have been returned to standard spec when released for civilian use. I doubt this happens very often though...

Volvo are big into police cars even today. But now it's the V90 that's used as the base model, of course.
Stiffer springs and heavier duty rims is typical on police cars. XC70 models typically have the aluminium protective plate under the engine too. |

I have a 215 D5 and its FWD, not sure if they did a AWD.
Road tax is about £135 a year thanks to having start/stop, if it were AWD I suspect it would be much more. Mines a Redesign and the suspension is firm but I wouldn't say uncomfortably firm but handles really well. Front brakes are massive so there's plenty of stopping power. Highly recommend the 215 D5 especially if your going to be filling the car with prams etc as you may appreciate the extra power. My fuel economy if low to mid 40s so nowhere near the book but then they seem to be the most basic models tested and I do a lot of mixed driving also. Car seems to tow really well and does seem to eat bulbs as much as the P2 i had either. Hope that info helps.

I had the XC70 D5 215 AWD Geartronic which I enjoyed very much. Towed my 1800kg caravan with ease and was pretty fast too. Gave decent mpg when solo ie;low to mid 40's on a run which I thought was good doing around 65 to 67mph .
