2007/08 V70 SE wheels - question
Does anyone happen to know the name of the wheels fitted, I think, to just the 2007/08 SE models? Very sold looking - seven wide spokes (the cut outs between the spokes are probably narrower than the spokes). And were there any problems with these wheels? Mine are losing lacquer (susceptible to pressure washing?) and one seems to be causing tyre pressure loss. Nice looking wheels in my view, and I'm about to have them properly stripped and refurbished but (noting that Volvo seemed to drop them fairly promptly), just wanted to check that there's no known inherent design flaw before doing so. Many thanks.

Problems in terms of durability of finish or structural problems?
10 year old Volvo alloys will show paint/lacquer breakdown in all but exceptional circumstances. It is particularly common for air leakage at the rim as a result. Structurally Volvo wheels are significantly stronger then cheap aftermarket wheels. |

I have occasionally looked at buying a new set of wheels, but I agree with Tommy Weaves in that it's highly unlikely anything will be as strong as Volvo's own wheels, so I too am now considering getting them refurbed (in a nice shade of gunmetal I think).

The trick is to make sure sure they are thoroughly cleaned right back to bare metal before powder-coating, but any decent refurb. place should do that anyway. If in doubt, ask your local main dealer who they use. Pressure loss could be the wheels, but I had a real problem with my 2008 V70 (18inch Venators) which turned out to be the valves; there was a reaction between the different metals used for the valve casing (sleeve) and the core, the resulting oxidisation causing swelling which split the casing open, leading to pressure loss. It happened twice; first time - slow leak; second time - sudden blow-out on dual carriageway! My car had TPMS, so maybe only a problem with those special valves but in theory, maybe it could happen to other types - worth checking...?
