V70 mk1 auxiliary sockets, ciggie lighters.
Ok can I ask if anyone has had strange issues with the two auxiliary sockets inside the car?
Sometimes they both work fine and on other times anything plugged in just goes dim before giving up and not working, when testing there is voltage there but any kind of draw no matter how low and they stop powering. I have gone through the manual and checked the fuses and even replaced them, I can only imagine it’s a loose connection or corroded joint or connector? Anyone else had similar and found a cure would help greatly. I may just run a totally separate feed with online fuse incorporated. Once I find the appropriate point to connect into. Knowing Volvo there will be a spare permanent live feed somewhere. Currently I am using the good old spare battery in the rear footwell with a solar panel charger connected, would rather ditch the battery and use the two internal sockets. Thanks anyone reading. |

There is a yellow accessory socket, with plug, under the driver's side dash. It’s referred to in the handbook which also gives the pinouts.

Wow so quick a reply, thank you Simon j.
See I knew Volvo would have extra facilities to connect too It’s the thought of taking the whole dash out that phases me, I am hands on and do all my own work, have done for years, Thanks mate. |

I previously had an extension from the front cigarette lighter socket to a four-socket unit screwed to the dash (which was not very elegant to say the least). Have recently removed this and have the sat-nav connected direct into the front socket and the dash cam powered through a longer lead (bought through the usual on-line auction site) from the rear socket. Would really like to add a permanent live feed somewhere without having to take half the interior apart to run a cable and the yellow accessory block sounds doable. Is this the big yellow one in the picture or the small one close to the brake light switch?

This picture shows the socket. When I get a chance later I’ll post a picture of the page in the handbook.

If you open the bonnet and look on the firewall, on 1998 cars, there is a grommet in a hole which goes through the firewall near the ABS pump.
Presume you could feed a new wire and inline fuse through that. On the driver's side (UK) I think the throttle cable goes through a similar hole on the driver's side. In US, the grommet on the other side of the car is used (hence the two holes). Hope that helps, Steve

Thanks for the clarification photo. How do you identify which pin is which? Are they clearly numbered?

The pins should be numbered. From my owners manual (I would post a pic but it's in French)
1- Battery power (~12V) 20A max 2- Power 0.5A max 3- Headlights (high beam I think, not sure what the owner manuals means there) 15A max 4- not wired 5- not wired 6- Rheostat (?) 0.5A max 7- not wired 8- Ground Should be page 7:16 of the manual Last edited by Goupil; Jul 2nd, 2019 at 19:56. |
