Adding headlight washers to 2008 V70?
Hi guys. Just joined the site today so be gentle on me. I bought a 2008 V70 2.0F here in Ireland a few weeks ago for the grand sum of €1600. It needs a bit of body work and the front bumper is cracked but mechanically it's perfect. I managed to pick up a 2nd hand front bumper but the bumper I got came with headlight washers. My own car doesn't have them installed. Is it possible or a big job to wire, pipe and activate the headlight washers on the new bumper? I see behind the foglight on the drivers side there is a plug but its blanked. The 2nd hand bumper came with the washers and all wiring and piping. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your washer bottle will need the high pressure pump fitting (my 2008 v70 didn’t have headlight washers and no pump for it was fitted), it sits on the back of the washer bottle and is different to the windscreen washer pump, the loom for it is probably there and it will probably need activating with VIDA/DICE, the high pressure pump has its own fuse so check fuse box to see if it is there or not, I can’t see it been plug and play but will stand corrected. The washer bottle is in the near side front wing, so unless you are talking about a lhd car, the plug you mention is unrelated.

You are probaby going to have best chance of success by fitting the pump, pipework and washers, but wire it up as a seperate circuit from the existing factory fitted wiring, as getting the control module(s) to recognise/activate the washers will likely be difficult and expensive. I'd even use a proprietary switch (mounted somewhere convenient) instead of trying to use the column stalk, for extra simplicity. Just make sure you tell the MOT tester where it is so he can test them (if it is part of the Irish test?).

Cheers for the replies lads. Seems like a lot of hassle for little gain. I might just fit them and leave them disconnected.

What is the point of going through the effort of fitting them then?
