240 body mods
Hi all,
Is anyone else doing body modifications to their 240? I have an estate and have already removed all the extranious trim, just need to fill the 70 odd holes and was wondering if I was alone.........I plan to use a punch to knock the small trim holes in a little them fill them as I have heard that this is actually better than welding them up. The larger holes need patch pieces made, then I'll mig them in. I'd love to see anyone elses smoothed rides. |

Our 240 pick-up was partially detrimmed. When my 245 GLT comes up for respray later this year it will certainly loose some trim. The rubbing strip on the sill and the tacky grey plastic at low level will all go along with self adhesive vinyl below the windows. I can't make my mind up about the waist level strip. This was removed on the pick-up but I was'nt entirely happy with it.
Regards smaller holes the best filling method is to punch in slightly, Mig weld, touch with grinder if necessary and then fill. Just be careful of heat distortion when welding in larger holes. Mike

This is a popular modification in the US. Maybe one for Turbobricks?

Mike,
I've started removing the vinyl trim along the window line, what a job! I've used a heat gun (carefully!) and a shaped stick to push scrape it off. The residue is nasty and very sticky but comes off with cellulose thinners. The biggest problem I have is that the body colour underneath is considerably darker (red) so I'll either have to cut it back or consider a repaint..... All the other trim hit the bin ages ago, with the exception of the rubbing strip above the sills, that's next. Foggy, I read custom car magazine and love the work of Troy Trepanier, Chip foose, Boyd Coddington etc., who all love to smooth out large cars. Bring it on!! |

I was aware of the nasty sticky stuff. That's why I'm waiting for respray time.
