ATF for gearbox and 80w90 GL5 oil for the diff.

You can apparently use engine oil in the gearbox, 10w40 same as the normal engine oil. This is apparently the new recommendation rather than using ATF. That might be because the original ATF type A/A recommended is no longer available and they think that engine oil matches the spec more closely than TQF or Dexron.

How old is this one, and how many doors?

Euro car parts do new tailgate struts for cheap - make sure you get the uprated ones if you have the later style big spoiler.

Watch out for your brake master cylinder - after sitting for years on end the seals have probably perished. This will probably happen after a day or two driving. If you find your brake pedal descending towards the floor when you apply the anchors then it's rogered. There is a master cylinder recon kit, but is very rare - most people end up buying the new m/c complete.

I reckon getting the timing belt done is very good advice, and should sort out your rough running issues. £160 from a garage will save you a whole heap of hassle.

Enjoy your '60 - there's nothing quite like them.

Cheers Ronnie,
It has the large tailgate spoiler, how do I find out which is the correct strut? How much are new brake mastercylinders, and are they hard (read expensive) to fit?
Also been looking at 10w40 oil, in tesco 5 litres of mineral is £9.97, they also do it in part synthetic for £14.97, in such an old engine, albeit only 60k miles, is it worth while using the good stuff when it gets changed every 6k miles anyway?
When I break it out of the barn in the next couple of weeks, Ill post some pics!
Last question, the brakes are ceased (rusted probably) on, does anyone know the easiest way to release them?
Sorry I lied, this is the last question, what does a cambelt kit consist of?
I cant find a timing belt kit, but have seen what maybe the components of one, (cambelt, tensioner, pulley) on eurocarparts, and GSF, is this all a kit consists of?

Thankyou for any replies, I cant tell you how much trouble, this forum and the people who use it, have saved me!

As previously mentioned, you might like to contact foggyjames about tailgate struts. See this post for more details:

http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-u...=7266&start=29

And as pettaw says, for a cambelt kit (cambelt and tensioner) just visit your local dealer. The parts are used in many of the bigger Volvos too, so they will still be available.

If the cambelts are from "before", ie, when you stored the car they will probably have deteriorated the same as the fitted cambelt. I would throw them all away and buy a new cambelt! Better safe than sorry.

Default bits!

Hey,
looked in the box of bits in the boot today, that my mum got with the car, when she bought it from the Volvo dealerships owners wife, not been opened since my mum got it in 1996.
Wow Im RICH!!!!!!!! LOL

There are 5 new replacement wing mirror glasses, a replacement wing mirror, 2 new ignition barrels, 2 sets of rear lights, and finally, a new boxed exterior temperature guage with sensor and all the wiring, where do you get the double housing and the volt meter that goes with it?

cheers
Jason

The exterior temperature gauge goes in the instrument cluster, making it a "5-dial dash" To make it a "6-dial-dash" you need an econometer ...

The extra gauge panel in front of the gear lever is for oil temp or pressure or a voltmeter.

There is a slight judder on tickover and also a little hesitation when accelerating, also seems to lack a little power when compared to a friends same model and year 360 glt, even though his had twice the mileage, also the exhaust seems to smell a little rich.

Any more ideas would once again be greatly appreciated!

cheers
