Default Has Anyone Removed Frong and Rear Spirings?

Has anyone on here removed the front and rear springs to fit lowering ones? I can see the front and pretty streight forward but what about the rears?

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Rear is REALLY easy!

Remove wheel
Remove bottom bolt (where the damper is connected to the suspension arm)
Press arm down
Pull out spring

That is it. Nothing else. You can of course start to take the whole thing apart, but the rear axle only needs one bolt removed and you get all the play and space you need.

Awesome Daim, Looking at doing my lowering springs this weekend, are the fronts just as simple?

The fronts are okay. Just make sure you buy some new strut bearings. It doesn't go a miss. Also make sure you align the bearing and the strut again. But otherwise a straight fordward thing

Don't need them for the rears. It is basically done by hand. The standard rear springs are just long enough not to fall out, if the wheel is lifted off the ground.

What about compressors for the front?

The strut bearings, are they expencive? Also aligning the bearing and the strut, How do you do that? By hand or a tool/equipment?

Compressors are DEF needed for the fronts. I bought a cheap set of Amazon für €14. They were more than enough. Just make sure you place them in a useable position.

The bearings (front) cost about €30 for two, if you don't buy from Volvo. Important: the bearings from Volvo are made by SKN. Makesure you buy the ones from SKN. Partnumber: VKD 35035 T

This is the place I ordered them from with the right part:
http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/sear...35035%20T.html

The alignment is rather easy:

The bearings have a little nose on them. Make sure this nose is in line with the bottom metal "sideplate" on the damper/suspension strut.

A little tip for the front:

Before removing the strut, LOOSEN the nut on top inside the car. Allen key inside, nut outside. Just undo a little bit. Not remove!

This link will help:
http://accessories.volvocars.com/Acc...848-1/C30_2009

It IS for a C30, but the suspension etc. is the same as that of an S40 or V50. So you can use it well.

A final tip

When you fit the bearing to the triangular carrier, use some high temperature grease and rub that on the rubber ring of the triangular carrier. Use a good bit and rub it around to make sure it is everywhere. This will eliminate possible noises from the suspension, which the lowering can cause.
