The handbook says the engine isn't suitable for biodiesel. Of course it dosn't say why.

If you did decide to ignore Volvo, servicing would need to be done more often.

I saw what looked like a good bit of kit for making the stuff on Fifth Gear this evening called a Fuelpod 2.

If you decide to experiment with your XC90 keep us posted on how you get on.

No mods at all. Im making the biodiesel with rapeseed oil and with a home made set up (which is very crude at the moment), and the ph balance is checked at every stage. My car has 120,000 miles and i considered running my car on bio worth the "risk" (despite the fact that the bio has almost got exactly the same chemical make up as normal diesel).
I am in the process of going back onto normal diesel so i can get my car chipped.

Interesting you should want to "go back" to get it chipped - Bio apparently has a higher Cetane rating than std Diesel, so should produce more power, and respond even better to chipping..??

I am building GL's Eco processor, cheap & easy with no water required

Hopefully, it will look something like this when done!

I've been running my van on SVO (straight veg oil - Tesco's 56p ltr) for a few months now, and am just building a WVO (waste veg oil) filtration kit, as I can get approx 80-100 ltrs a week FREE!!!!

I am more than likely also going to build a reactor!!! To make good quality Biodiesel that I can use in my car.... Sick and tired of paying approx £450 a month in fuel tax alone!!!

Mike
Mike,

Do you just add SVO to your van directly? I'm new to all this, so sorry if questions sound numpty.

The other car in our house is a 2002 BMW 320D, just wondered if it is simply adding SVO into the tank mixed in with a certain % of diesel?

SVO straight into the tank on my van. and soon WVO too!

Will be making Bio specifically for the XC90...

Not sure what your cars suitability to SVO is, if its direct injection, at the very least it will need "twin tanking" I get all my info here:

The cetane rating is .1 higher than dino diesel and it was under the recomendation of the tuner to go back. that set up looks nice and tidy.
I have just read and found this very interesing http://www.graham-laming.com/bd/ecos...iagram_new.htm

Actually the handbook says 5% RME is OK but then there is.....

Quote:
NOTE!

If concentrations of RME are greater than 5%, there is a risk of engine damage
.

Still the rewards are high now the tax has changed.

Here's a link to the FuelPod 2 brochure for those that are interested.....http://greenfuels.co.uk/fuelpod2.pdf

What does spring to mind is that it's cheaper to convert the engine to run on Straight Vegetable Oil. Looks a nice piece of kit though.
