I think your best bet will be to ring around the volvo breakers. Lakes Wyboston is the only one I know of perhaps a search will give you a few more. There have been a few threads about what is required - don't be surprised if you find that it is a bit more complicated than just finding 'an m90 gearbox'

Yes, indeed but it all depends on your starting point - 740/760/940 vs 960 mk1 vs 960 mk2; M46 vs ZF auto.

The conversion I want to do is from a m46 to m90 in a late series 760 with irc rear suspension.

I know that I need the gearbox, lever and linkage, gearbox mount, don't know if my current drive shaft would fit tho...

How much are you willing to pay? I have one with 85k on it, with the linkages, but I'm trying to keep hold of it really...

I remember now, you have to the 760 mk2.

I know that with its o/d unit, the M46 is a lot longer than the M90 so you would need a prop shaft as well.

I don't know about being any kind of expert though! Lol

Right, so you need the appropriate M90 from a D24, that's a given.
Next up, yes you will need a prop, or at least the front half of it, to mate to the M90.
Gear linkage, lever/gaiter and rear mount/cross member,
Most likely, you'll need the clutch slave cylinder, but you might get lucky and find your gearbox comes with one.
The M90 clutch is different, so order a three piece kit. Not worth fitting a used one.
I can't remember if there's any difference in starter motors/locations.
The plug for the reverse lights may be different, so may need modifying to suit.

Erm... Can't think of anything else at the minute, it's been a while!

I have an M90 + prop shaft & rear mount for the box, but it is from a 940 2.3l LPt petrol engine not a D24 so I'm not sure if it is any use to you. If it is, it came from a car with ~ 20K on the clock and was running very nicely - not much more that 'run in' for these!
Let me know if you are interested.....

Unfortunately, a Redblock M90 will be no use here.
The bell housings are not removable and a different bolt pattern.

I always wandered if the 'box from a newer shape LT35 would fit.
In thery it should bolt up to the block, as VW never change the bolt patterns, but the rest would have to be custom, the ratios are probably too low too.
