What sort of glass do Volvo use in their pan roofs? How much does the roof compromise safety?

It is stronger than the metal panel on the standard car ,also the strength is in the boron beams around the edges . I would not fancy sliding down the road upside down though with all that glass fracturing around me .

Being upside down and sliding along the road would be bad! Mind you that would be a seriously rare situation. If the glass does break, presumably it is designed to fragment into tiny pieces that cannot slice and cut?

If it's the same as the 940 sunroof on top gear that was tipped over on top gear then it will be toughened glass that breaks into cubes. Horrid stuff when it flies in the car and at you.

On my current 940 I always think the sunroof should be laminated with multi layers to prevent some scum from throwing a rock/brick through it on a motorway bridge etc.
You will see a stamp somewhere in the corner or on edge possibly stating toughened or tempered or even laminated.

The 940 is a very old car now and I am pretty sure they will have improved the engineering. At least I hope they have .

I'd guess it'a laminated TBH - will have to check when I get home. Certainly toughend.

If you had the blind closed, the glass wouldn't affect you as much to an extent.

The flip side is, that if you got trapped in your car, and the doors/windows were wedged, you could put the roof through and climb out.
