CV boot replacement.
I had my transmission service done today and a general check said front o/s CV boot leaking. I've not done one on a Volvo before so does anyone know if this is straightforward? They haven't said inner or outer so I guess I should check that first. Is it easier to replace the whole shaft or just the boots? Thanks.

Evening, a word of warning for you. My v60 has turned 190k, and the plasticy rubber boots split due to the mileage, and both full driveshafts including the CV joints have had to be replaced as they started clicking very shortly after the boots failed, this in spite of replacing the boot a few days after noticing the ejected grease over the wheel on both occasions. Just check them for play before you look at replacing the boot.

That sounds interesting, any idea where I can find them?

Search your model on Parts for Volvo’s website.
Hopefully they stock them. UK seller, so quick delivery. Edit: They don’t do them for your car, unfortunately. Euro Car Parts sell a universal style CV boot. Maybe this will work. https://www.eurocarparts.com/search/...SABEgKwsvD_BwE

Them split boots never work, they are just bodgery. I’ve seen so many attempts where they have tried to be fitted. They normally just come apart and shower the entire underside in grease. Just fit a boot kit properly and repair it once and the job is done. By the time you have messed about trying to the glue the bloody thing together with grease all over your hands and then trying to get the boot clamps on you’d wish you had. And what ever you do don’t use jubilee clips.
I’d get a decent kit specific for your car. Depending on which it is depends on if the shaft has to come out. Having the band clamp tool and an expander makes it a lot easier as well.

Outer can be done on the car, inner shaft has to come out.
