Default Common oil leaks

Hi does anyone know of any common oil leaks besides the oil return to the sump and the dip stick tube seal on the S40 t4

no , they are usualy dry as a bone , each oil leak if you have one is particular to your car really, as every joint and seal is a possible source .

Think the sump gasket has gone on mine! God knows why, I wouldn't thought it was common though.

I did the sump the other day which i think was the main culprit because most of the leak has gone but i carnt help but think there is something up above the sump somewhere maybe in the corner just seaping down

the sump hasnt got a gasket , it is metal to metal with a special grade loctite sealer/adhesive . if someone has had it off before and not used the correct sealer it may be leaking ..

Well i drove it home tonight and there is oil on the black craddle where is was last timeits coming from some where above the sump.its not coming from the oil return pipe from the turbo or the sump as its bone dry.Any ideas that i could look at

I had to replace the rear cam shaft seal (the one behind the cam shaft sensor) due to a small leak but, the leak was so small, it didn't affect the sensor in any way.

The rear crank seal was/are known to fail on the 850 unit (same part number as the T4 unit).

@ Clan - has it ever been known for the intermediate section to let oil past?

had to change the cam seals on my p1.5 t4 when it was in for a cam belt was a nightmare getin the parts aswell volvo sent the wrong 1s 6 times to the garage took a week to get um had them made in the end by local engin specilist

Mine doesn't leak either, but got to do the head gasket in a week or so, so may well have a few leaks after! lol

im very sure it isnt the rear crank seal because it would be dripping out of the bottom of the gearbox.this leak seams to be on the back of the engine above the sump but some how its leaking onto the craddle
