I don't think it is a fan. Because it is a shuffling sound like two plates are (slowly) rubbing against each other.

suggest you get a haynes manual or vadis data to gain pictoral data re the work you want to do on your car, its more effective than written text.

Re the fan unit take off lower cover in passenger foor well, you will see a plate with a wire cnonnector attached undo the plate retaining screws and disconnect connctor block drop the unit out the base of the heater module, this is the fan unit..... check the bearing by wobling the impellar unit on its mounting... if there is play its worn also look for any trapped debris / rub marks in the impellar . casing internally...
