Panel air filter
Hello chaps.
I've had the S40 for 2 months now and I'm really liking it. It's a 1.9TDCi (115) and I've had the ECU professionally remapped, which has completely transformed the performance of it, no to mention improved the fuel consumption, especially at motorway speeds! I'd like to add a decent free-flowing panel filter to allow a bit more air to get in, but I'm not 100% on which one to get. Are they all the same fitment, even for the diesels? Does anyone have any experience with particular manufacturers? I had a BMC panel filter on my previous car, which was good, but I can't seem to find any for the S40. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best suppliers? |

Consensus of net opinion seems to be that the only real options are K&N (my choice)http://www.knfilters.com/ or ITG - oil impregnated, last forever and better air flow. Also easiest and most stock looking is purely replace the OEM panel filter with similar from the above.
Some say you can get more air through replacing the complete box approach with a high flow intake (again K&N or BSR)/ Induction type but you need to ensure shielding the air inflow from the heat of the engine. But some say you never get the real benefit unless you get true cold external air so they pipe the air intake accordingly. Friend of mine had that as standard on their Renault (Espace) and it would act as a water input channel straight into the turbo with needless to say, detrimental results. Hope thats of help! |

I should clarify...I only want to replace the panel filter, not go messing around with the boxes, or replacing it with a CDA, induction kit or similar.
I've found a supplier of BMC panel filters, who can do me one for £32.19. What price was your ITG one? I'm not overly keen on the foam ones, always thought they would be a bit too 'soft'. |
