Just double checked the manual, and it definitely states AW1 spec for TF-80 gearbox on a 2012 plate, that was also confirmed by Smith and Allen oils when I emailed them.
I looked into this before changing mine last year, from memory the the early pre face lift used JWS 3309 then later post face lift changed to AW1. Regards James |

If you drain the gearbox sump you will only get 2.2lt of fluid out. The rest stays in the galleries, the torque converter and the cooler. That's why you need to repeat the process at least 4 times.
In my opinion it is much easier (and more thorough) to perform a flush.

It's more thorough to do a transmission flush. However, I'd only do this on a vehicle that I knew was well maintained, ideally with supporting paperwork to show the fluid had been changed before.
I wouldn't for example flush a transmission on an older vehicle that had high mileage, wasn't particularly well maintained in terms of other maintenance & had no records of the fluid ever being changed before. That's where I'd opt for the drain & fill method, but that's just my opinion & what I'd do personally. Oh & by 'flush', I mean what's referred to as the "Gibbons method" to do the job. I don't mean pouring any type of chemical into the transmission to give it a clean... That's definitely a no in my book. Do what you feel is best (Drain & fill or the "Gibbons method").
