Default warning light Charging Failure: Service Urgent

Hi, Can anyone assist, Volvo V70 Mkiii 2011.
This appeared this morning:

Warning light 'Charging Failure: Service Urgent'

Stopped car turned off engine restarted and drove Warning light came back on within 2 minutes.

Had to Stop again for fuel warning light back on after light 10 minutes (3 miles).

Lights for Abs, power steering and Auto Gearbox light failed managed to get home. Battery dead (measured at 12.3)

I am thinking Alternator, but poss battery. Changed Battery 18mths ago for Bosh 6yr.

However, just a thought the Alternator Belt snapped 4 mths ago tried to replace it and wrong one arrived so I was offered another which was .5 larger size, took that and didn't replace tensioner, car has has run without issue over that time. But Could the replacement belt be causing a lack of charge.

Thanks for reading and replying.

You need to put right the things that you know are wrong. The belt should fit and be at the correct tension and the battery needs to be recharged. Hopefully it hasn't been damaged by being run flat. Once you've fixed that you need to check that the alternator is actually working and what charge it is supplying. The best way of doing this checking for yourself would be to buy yourself a VIDA/DiCE diagnostics kit to run on a laptop and lewt it tell you what isn't working. It's never a good idea to leave things running in less than the state in which Volvo intended they should run. Hopefully it'll be a cheap fix but you may have to have the alternator changed and that is going to cost money. If you have a laptop, the VIDA/Dice will set you back less than £50 and is a good investment for the future if you intend to run ageing Volvos.

Stating the obvious, the battery needs charging,Ideally you need the correct auxiliary belt, however failing this is there enough adjustment left on the tensioner to check/re-tension the belt on there?Once the belt is replaced/re-tensioned start the car and check voltage at battery which will indicate whether the alternator is doing its bit for the cause.

Thank you for taking your time out to reply. Sorry I should of mentioned I have a VIDA DiCE, just bought a battery charger and will run the Vida in the morning.
Can I ask, although I have viewed the Vida in the past (months ago) with engine running is it an easy task to check on this;
ie; the Alternator, it's output and alternator information, also will the Vida /Dice show or log if there is an issue ( yellow red/ symbol) or will I have to find out what the charging level the alternator should be out putting.

Regards

Thank you for taking your time out to reply. Hoping to do this in the morning, with the Vida although when we first used it the symbols did make it easy to read but not sure if the VIDA will show output or symbols or if the alternator output is none so the issue is that or there is insufficient output. Will follow up tomorrow.

Regards

I have used VIDA / Dice and results do seem to show Alternator 180amp 'general failure'

However I also have a Battery voltage 'general failure' showing red, could this also be a fault or is it due to Alternator throwing its hand in.

Finally able to run VIDA /DICE seems easy until using so was watching videos to get in idea.

VIDA saying Alternator running with output of .02 -.04 A. So it seems kaput, trying to get a recon rather than £450 + for a new one.

Will take photos of refitting as there as none based on this engine bay design.

Thanks again for your help and concern.
